As 2011 comes to a close, we all get to look forward to the new year. The new year causes us all to start over, in a sense, and set goals for ourselves. Everything seems to change when the calendar flips to January 1; however, the current fashion trends will not suddenly disappear. I have compiled a list of my favorite fashion trends that are popular right now.

#1: Asymmetrical Hemlines

Asymmetrical cuts to the bottom of both dresses and skirts are fun, unique, and they can give an edgier or more romantic vibe (depending on the specific piece) to the outfit as a whole.

#2: Collars

Collars, whether they're on shirts, dresses, or jackets, have recently become a very popular trend. A collared piece helps to bring attention to your face and give the garment a more tailored look.

#3: Metallic Floral Print

One of the newest looks I've seen popping up in trendy stores has been metallic floral prints. A metallic floral print puts a tougher spin on the traditional girly flower pattern. Also, metallic hues, when placed on basic colors, add a sense of dimension and personality to a look.

#4: Tailored Pants

Pants with classic-looking silhouettes have recently made a comeback. Tailored pants, a more unique alternative to skinny jeans, are both comfortable and chic.

#5: Structured Handbags

Smaller handbags, particularly those that are cross-body, have really made a comeback in 2011. I personally own about six cross-body bags because they are both convenient and fashion-forward. In the past few months, structured bags have taken the spotlight. This bag, with a bright color and classic lines, is an unexpected way to interpret this trend.
