Although we are still in the midst of winter, stores and fashion magazines are pushing spring like it's going to pop up tomorrow. Considering it was snowing only a few days ago, I think it's safe to say pants, heavy coats, and other Eskimo attire will need to stick around a little while longer; however, who doesn't like to plan ahead? Along with flatforms (covered here), pastels have proven to be a prominent transitional color palette for winter's closing to the commencement of spring. Below are some of the pastel-related trends I've seen.
1.) Muted Rainbow Hair
This interpretation of pastels is definitely a bit extreme. Although I feel as if pastel hair, such Miss Audrey Kitching's (left), is both innocent and edgy at the same time--the light colors remind me of cotton candy but the rainbow effect is daring--I don't think I would personally ever attempt to paint my hair the colors of the washed out rainbow. Statement hair, such as this, is meant for high fashion and can prove to be impractical for everyday life.
2.) Pastel Nails
Pastel nails are both delicate and practical: Delicate because the light hue of the polishes give a subtle, yet elegant touch to any ensemble and practical because chipped pastel nail polish is less noticeable than a darker color polish. That's a win/win in my book. I received the lavender polish from Zoya in my January Birchbox (and currently have it on) and love the quality of the polish.
3.) Pale Eyeshadow
Eyeshadow can be as simple or as complicated as you make it. In the photo to the left, the model has a two-tone eye--she has a different color on the top of her lids than under her waterline; however, pastel eyes looks just as pretty with a single color. Since eyeshadow is in such as close proximity to your eyes (yes, I realize that is obvious), it's important to pick colors that bring out your eyes based on what color they are.
Blue: Soft Peaches/Light Browns
Brown: Blues/Violets
Green: Lavenders/Purples
What are your thoughts on the pastel craze?
