If you're a member of the beautiful blogosphere of Tumblr and you happen to follow a few fashion blogs, chances are that you've seen a pair of Litas. The Lita, a type of platform bootie from the brand Jeffrey Campbell, was introduced to the Campbell shoe line on July 26, 2010. Since its release, the Lita has become a staple piece in the closets of many fashion-forward bloggers. I, personally, adore Litas because although they are edgy and trendy, they are still very wearable when paired with an outfit that isn't too busy. Litas are available in a wide variety of patterns, colors, and fabrics to ensure every girl can get what she wants. In my opinion, the only downfall of the Lita is the number on the price tag: about $160.
However, there are ways to score platform booties without breaking the bank. I, being a bargain hunter, scored a pair of knockoff Litas for about $35. I understand most people feel that knockoffs look cheap, but, as shown in the images below, my Qupid Puffin 06 Platform Booties (left) look insanely similar to the pricey Jeffrey Campbell ones (right). I purchased my pair of the booties in the Black Leather finish from a seller on eBay who had never worn the shoes. When I received the package, the shoes were still in their original box and were in pristine condition. Qupid shoes can be found at Lulu's, ModCloth, eBay, along with many websites.
Being an owner of the shoes, I shall now give you my honest opinion on my Qupid Puffin 06 booties. The leather-like finish on the shoe could easily pass for real leather, but is more animal friendly and hey, who doesn't like that? The shoes, with a platform of about 1" in the front area and a thicker heel, are very comfortable considering they are about 4.5" high. A difference between the Qupid and the Campbell booties is that the Campbell has a higher platform in the front (NOTE: In the picture of the Qupid Puffin 06, the platform looks noticeably lower (and more awkward) than it does in person). The hardware and laces of the shoe nearly mirror that of a legitimate pair of Litas except for the fact that the Qupid booties have silver hardware while the Jeffrey Campbell pair has gold. The tiny aspects of the shoe that I do not completely love are the fact that the shoes squeak a little when worn and that the distressed wood heel looks fake when inspected up close. However, the heel of the Litas has the same look so no real points are lost there.
All in all, I love my Qupid Puffin 06 shoes. They are reminiscent of the pricey Litas but are a fraction of the cost. I would style my booties (or the Cambell Litas) with a maxi dress with a print in muted tones for an instantly cool day or evening look, a pair of skinny jeans and a flowy top for day outfit, or even with a short party dress to toughen up a very feminine ensemble.
