This wave of, well, studded ANYTHING has been rising since last summer. Studs are grunge-esque, but can we worked into any style depending on your own personal fashion. These tiny pieces of metal come in a variety of shapes--pointy cones, pyramids, raised circles--and colors--gold, silver, black, antiqued silver, antiqued gold, copper, etc.Studded clothing, handbags, hair accessories, and even shoes have be popping up in stores everywhere, and they aren't always as cheap as you would expect them to be. Studs raise the price of garments to the point where you may opt to skip the trend to keep some cash; but, don't fret because I can show you how to get something like the picture above (which I made) or any studded design you think you can tackle for CHEAP.
Once upon a time, I was scrolling through Tumblr and and a fantastic denim jacket with a studded eagle on the back of it. It was literally perfect. However, I ran into a dilemma when figuring out how to get one: I couldn't find anyone selling it considering I did not know who made it. This sparked my interest in studded garments, and since that day, I was determined to get something partially covered in that pointed metal. After looking on a variety of trendy websites for studded clothing, I concluded that: A) I wasn't going to find anything I liked B) I wouldn't pay the set prices because, in my opinion, they were too high. A few weeks later, I found a DIY video for studs on YouTube and "pimped out" an old denim vest I didn't wear anymore. Here is said video:
Okay, she goes on about how it's so easy and such, and, I have to say, it really is. Although a tad time consuming, it is extremely simple to stud and cheap to purchase the studs. I spent less than $10.00 for a pack of 200 antiqued gold studs from eBay and went to work on my vest and this is what the final product came to be:
Note: If a fabric is too thick, studs may not go through it!
(As you can see, there is a British flag under the studs. I cut the flag to size, adhered the flag with fabric glue, and studded right along the edges.)
I am in LOVE with this vest and will definitely stud more pieces in the future.
