The web is full of great green blogs. They’re the writings and work of people who are passionate about keeping the earth healthy, safe, and clean for future generations. They are working hard to stop and even reverse the damage already done, and are true inspirations for the rest of us. Keeping a green blog may be all the rage these days, but making sure the content is interesting requires more effort than one may think. So when you come upon a good green blog, it’s definitely a good idea to bookmark it for future reference. Here are a few interesting blogs sure to inspire you.
Little Eco Footprints
http://littleecofootprints.typepad.com/
This blog is written by Tricia, a mom in Australia, who is working hard to be green in a big city. According to the blog, she always dreamt of living very close to the earth, growing her own food, subsisting on her own, and having a small ecological footprint. While she once assumed this all meant she had to leave the city she loved, she later realized she could live right in the heart of her big city and make simple changes to her to life to achieve it all. Her blog chronicles all of these changes, which include things like an urban garden, eco crafts (and re-purposing old goods), backyard chickens and bees, and connecting with nature and the community. A recent article details how to make a produce bag from old curtains, in order to avoid those little plastic bags at the store.
Honeybloom At Home
This cute little blog celebrates all things domestic, and indeed describes itself as a site “exploring motherhood and the domestic arts”. According to the blog, “From a communal farm, to an ashram, to an adobe hut and a typical American suburban ranch house, author Shannon Honeybloom has inhabited homes of all shapes and sizes. In her new book Making a Family Home, Honeybloom helps readers figure out how to turn their own shelter into a warm, comforting environment, one that enriches the whole family.”
The blog’s most recent post focuses on the virtues of the Slow Food Movement and “slow living”, which means valuing family, friends, the environment, and showing a real appreciation for our planet.
Hip Moms Go Green
Hip Moms GO Green has been blowing up social media networks lately. It’s rapidly become popular on Facebook, Twitter, and in the blogsphere. The site is a free online magazine dedicated to helping readers care about the health of their families, children, and the health and future of their planet. The products and solutions offered on the blog are hip, trendy ways to green your life and the lives of those around you.
According to the site, the idea for Hip Moms Go Green was born when “…at a dinner party in October 2006, when a savvy and otherwise mindful hostess tossed her organic greens into a salad bowl but dumped the newly-emptied plastic container into a garbage sack instead of the recycling bin. Watching this, Nickie Knight had an epiphany: Despite the fact that many of us understand and empathize with the eco-friendly movement, our hectic schedules and busy lives too often incline us toward ‘easy’ (or, better stated, habituated) actions. On the spot, she decided to dedicate herself to proving that going green and making a positive impact on the environment needn’t be a chore.” Trendiness; it’s definitely a great way to get people to care about our bodies and planet.
